1 in 3 girls in Sierra Leone risk FGM or marriage

Today, our CEO, Alimatu Dimonekene MBE, spoke with James Copnall on BBC Newsday to address the growing concern over the continued lack of political will in Sierra Leone to ban female genital mutilation.

During the interview, she highlighted the urgent need for stronger government leadership, clear legislation, and meaningful protection for girls at risk.

She emphasized that cultural traditions should never come at the expense of children’s safety, dignity, and human rights, and called on policymakers to move beyond rhetoric and take concrete action to end FGM once and for all.
